A Visit to the Doctor
A visit to Dr. Whitten’s office is like no other doctor visit you will ever have. Although trained as a chiropractor, Dr. Whitten has gone far beyond the boundaries of his profession and has made numerous technical advances in the areas of postural correction, repairing physical and emotional trauma, kinesiology and energy medicine. His goal is not simply to eliminate pain but rather to assist his patients in becoming free within their bodies and psyches to participate fully and passionately in life. His work delves into childhood and ancestral emotional patterns to unravel the root causes of the self-sabotage mechanisms and unlock one’s full potential. His work is not a job but a passion.
Hesu Whitten was born and raised in Boston, MA, later moving to Southern California in his senior year of high school. His father a Harvard professor and mother a massage therapist, Whitten was a combination of the best of both worlds, integrating his knowledge and scientific interest with a heartfelt approach to healing. He became interested in holistic healing as a teenager after seeing his grandmother, after being diagnosed with bone marrow cancer, turn away from western medicine and eat her way back to health through diet and natural remedies at an alternative medical clinic in Tiajuana.
After completing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UCSB in 1991, Hesu got his massage license and began to learn the fine art of hands on healing. Having been introduced, as a youth, to Applied Kinesiology (AK) or “muscle testing” as a way to get valuable health information from the body, he began to devour books on the subject and started practicing on his massage clients. In 1995 he entered Parker chiropractic college in Dallas in hopes of finding a mentor who could help him become a complete healer, allowing him to effectively work with people on the chemical, emotional and spiritual levels as well as physical. Such a mentor came along shortly into his first year of studies named Pat Fox. Dr. Fox was a humble, tireless and gifted healer, as well as a great communicator and a really funny guy. He was coming to Dallas once a month (from St. Louis) to teach a seminar on a highly advanced and comprehensive form of AK called Clinical Kinesiology (CK). He was the type of healer Hesu dreamed of becoming. Hesu moved in with another student, who had already taken some of Fox’s seminars, so they could spend all weekend and any free moment practicing this complex system. Hesu became so fascinated by what he was learning from Dr. Fox, who was having great success with so-called incurable diseases such as stage four cancer,Parkinson’s, autism etc., that he decided to take six months off from school just to devote his full attention to absorbing and practicing CK.
After three years practicing CK for hours a day, Whitten felt he had a good handle on the technique and started to figure out simpler, quicker and more teachable ways to achieve the same results. Since then he has spent a full decade making numerous technical advances and developing his own system of healing called The Whitten Way. He continues to learn, fine tune and add effective modalities to assist people in turning their physical and emotional health around through non-invasive and natural therapies. Always the student, he strives to constantly learn and educate his patients on basic principles of wellness, as well as inspire them to find meaning in their lives. His mission is to help the world become a healthier and happier place through educating people on the natural laws of health.
In his personal life Dr. Whitten is always pushing himself to explore the limits of his capabilities. At the age of 41 you may find him re-living his days as a UCSB gymnast by doing back flips or handstand push-ups in the middle of the floor. This last summer he spent his free time training for a ten-mile swim from Goleta pier to Santa Barbara pier….a feat which he accomplished on September 9th in five hours. It is reassuring to know that your doctor is practicing what he preaches.
Warmest wishes,
Hesu Whitten, DC
